Vixenz @ Nationals 2019!

What a weekend! Vixenz took a small but fierce squad of 15 players and played with heart and grit the entire weekend! Thanks BlueberriesNaaasty Women’s UltimateZodiac Women’s UltimateStingrays – Australian U24 Women’s Ultimate Team and Capital Punishment Women’s Ultimate for all the great games! 🧡

In Sunday’s last round, we found ourselves with a re-match vs Naaasty for 9th place and we knew it would be a tough battle 🤺 as we’d only won our pool game vs them by a few points! We took an early lead, but Naaasty loaded up a comeback🚂 in the second half #nevergiveup and we ended up going point-for-point until the final universe point score went to Vixenz for the win! 🎉 Both teams left it all on the field for that game — what a great way to finish the tourney.

Big thanks to our 2019 season’s coach Sherif Ibrahim & our leadership team Kristal Cain, Frauke Meyer, Clare Gibson & Nan Sirisamphan for taking this squad under your wings these last 6 months!! We couldn’t have done it without you!! 🧡🧡🧡

And with that, we’ve finished our 10th season as a club!! 🥳 🎂#timeflieswhenyourehavingfun

Soooo… who’s ready to start training for 2020??

Our Season

Our competitive season starts at the end of October 2018 and we welcome all women who want to share in our spirit and values!

We are looking for players who will commit to:

  • Train together as a squad twice a week; on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings (may potentially be moved to avoid clashes with Mixed team trainings until NZ Mixed Ultimate Champs in November).
  • Compete as a team at NZ Series Events and NZ Ultimate Champs.

We will also have an optional fitness training session once a week. This will focus on sprints, HIIT and strength training (the stronger you are the less likely you are to get injured!).

Competitive Squad members are expected to attend all trainings and tournaments, unless an exceptional circumstance arises. If you are unable to make this level of commitment, but still want to play with Vixenz, email vixensultimate@gmail.com or leave us a note in the ‘Last Words’ section of this EOI!

Training Squad

In addition to our Competitive Squad, we will be selecting Training Squad members. These players will be invited to all Vixenz trainings and local scrimmages. If you’d like to level up your game and join in the fun, but you’re unsure whether you’re up for a competitive season this summer, the Training Squad could be the thing for you! So come along to our trials!

Our Trials

Our trials will involve drills and game play to showcase and challenge your skills and fitness. The selectors will be evaluating things such as:

– Throwing and catching skills
– Offensive and defensive game play
– Physical fitness and mental resiliency
– Willingness to be coached, ability to follow instructions, willingness to try new things
– Teamwork with other players
– Attitude while on the field and on the sideline

Vixenz Season Assistance Fund

This fund was set up by the Vixenz Committee to offer support for players in our club who need assistance covering some of the costs associated with playing competitive ultimate. We recognize that peoples’ situations and circumstances can vary, and any/all applications for these funds will be kept confidential. Funds are to be used to cover things like base kit, tournament fees, or travel / accommodation for tournaments. You can apply at any point during the season, and a sub-group of the Vixenz Committee will review all applications and get back to you asap.

If you have any questions about trials or the Vixenz Club, email vixensultimate@gmail.com!

Vixenz New Head Coach

With spring around the corner, the Vixenz Club is gearing up to kick off another great season of women’s ultimate in Auckland! We’re especially excited because this year it’s our club’s 10TH SEASON and this week we’ve got a big announcement to share!

Our Head Coach this year is going to be Sherif Ibrahim! Sherif (“Shoe”) has been playing ultimate since 2003, has repped NZ at five World Championships, and has either coached or held leadership roles for open, mixed, and women’s teams at national and international competitions.

He’s got a sharp mind for strategy, a big voice for encouragement (and laughs), and a bounty of game knowledge and throwing skills that we’re eager to tap! Welcome Shoe!
